For the Reading Comprehension part of the verbal section, I would say that your answer should comply with the information given in the passage. You just need to understand what the author wants to say. Just ignore every other information that you already have on the topic. Solve the easier questions first. Don’t go into details while reading the passage for the first time. Just remember where the information is located in the passage.

For the Sentence Correction part, try to think yourself how the sentence could be completed without looking at the answers. Then follow the general strategies like eliminating the options that could be least possibly the correct answer.

For the Antonyms part of the Verbal Section, be careful regarding the secondary meanings of words. A word usually has more than one meanings. Sometimes a part of a word may indicate the meaning. For example – The meaning of a word can be implied with a prefix or a suffix in the word. The context in which a word is used usually gives hint on the probable meaning of the word.

 Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is created and managed by Educational Testing Service or ETS which tests a candidates abstract thinking skills. The GRE score is used in the admissions process. This test is a commercially run standardized test. The GRE is typically a computer-based exam that is administered by select qualified testing centers; however, paper-based exams are offered in areas of the world that lack the technological requirements. 

In the United States, the cost of the general test is $150 as of May 1, 2009, although ETS will reduce the fee under certain circumstances. ETS erases all test records that are older than 5 years, although graduate program policies on the admittance of scores older than 5 years will vary. 

The duration of the entire test is 4 hours. The GRE test has four sections out of which the first section is an analytical writing section and the rest are multiple-choice questions. You need to write two essays using a word processing program specially designed by the ETS. Please note that the word processor would perform basic functions but will not do advanced tasks like spell check etc. Each essay is graded on a scale of 0-6.

One of the multiple choice style exams will test verbal skills, another will test quantitative skills and a third exam will be a experimental section that is not included in the reported score. Test takers do not know which of the three multiple-choice sections is the experimental section.
